Scott Hall AKA Razor Ramon

Hi all GamerGeek back again with another blog about the late, great Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon.

Scott Hall made his first wrestling debut in NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) in 1984 until 1985. While in NWA he feuded with Dusty Rhodes (The American Dream) he was in a tag team with Dan Spivey. They debuted as American Starship, Hall under the ring name Starship Coyote and Spivey under the ring name Starship Eagle.

Hall joined the AWA (American Wrestling Association) in 1985, where he wrestled as "Magnum" Scott Hall and, later as "Big" Scott Hall. He wrestled as a babyface wrestler. Hall also travelled to Japan, where he wrestled several matches for NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) between 1987 and 1990.

He joined forces with Curt Henning and became AWA tag team champions.

In 1989 he joined WCW (World Championship Wrestling) thanks to Jim Ross as part of the development in new and young stars in the Wrestling industry. He tried out for the WWE in 1987 and 1990 but was never signed to the company. In 1990 he joined NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) before leaving in 1991 to re-join WCW.

He was renamed "The Diamond Studd", a gimmick similar to Rick Rude's (both were cocky, vain and would invite attractive women from the audience into the ring). He was managed by Diamond Dallas Page.

He joined WWF as was using the name Razor Ramon, this character was similar to Tony Montana from Scarface. If you don’t know Tony Montana or have never seen Scarface you are just like Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson. They did not know about the movie and actually thought Razor came up with this character himself . His catchphrase “Say Hello to the bad guy” kind of like Tony’s “Say hello to my little friend”.

While in the WWF is only held the WWF Intercontinental Championship (4 times), one match is had for the title was WrestleMania 10 with Shawn Michaels a Ladder match. So Michaels was the champion, he was suspended for a few month, and was stripped of the title. When he returned he wanted the title back as he never lose it, no one beat him for it. Razor won this match and was the undisputed Intercontinental Champion after retrieving both belts.

Another match he had with the WWF was him against the 1-2-3 kid (X-Pac), where the 1-2-3 kid beat him.

Coming to the end of his time with the WWF there was the famous “Curtain Call” at MSG, where Diesel and Razor were leaving and going back to WCW. At the time, Levesque and Nash were wrestling as heels, while Michaels and Hall were faces. At the end of the night, Michaels wrestled Nash in a steel cage match. Straight after the match, Hall entered the ring and hugged Michaels. This was not seen as unusual in-story, as both wrestlers were faces. However, Levesque then entered the ring and hugged Hall, followed by Nash. The four wrestlers then group hugged for several seconds before they turned to face the crowd with their arms raised together.

Interesting fact about this, Vince was so angry that this incident was recorded by a fan who snuck in a camcorder, he could not blame Razor or Diesel as they were leaving already. Michaels was the WWF at the time and was not punished for it, Triple H was the only one who was punished for this. Triple H was actually due to win the King of the Ring which was then won by Stone Cold Steve Austin who quoted his famous catchphrase for the first time and given a push “ Austin 3:16 said I just kicked your ass”.

While in WCW he joined forces with Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Diesel to create the NWO (New World Order)

During his time with WCW he won
· WCW World Television Championship (1 time)
· WCW United States Heavyweight Championship (2 times)
· WCW World Tag Team Championship (7 times) – with Kevin Nash (6) and The Giant (1)
· World War 3 (1997)

After leaving WCW in 2000, he went to ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling), returned to NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling), back to the WWF, then to TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling), JCW (Juggalo Championship Wrestling) for 3 years, returned to TNA, made a few appearances for 6 years before returning for the third time to WWE.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2014 by Kevin Nash aka Diesel and again in 2020 with the NWO as this was during covid there was not a ceremony.

He would make a few appearances in the WWE during the last few years. One of the best moments was WrestleMania 31 Triple H vs Sting. DX come out to help Triple H, just then the music, the guitar solo. Then Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan walk down to the ring, to take them on. This was something everyone wanted back in the 90’s, WWF vs WCW, Monday Night Wars, DX vs NWO it was amazing.

Sadly in March 2022, Hall was hospitalized after falling and breaking his hip. After Hall underwent hip replacement surgery, a blood clot was dislodged, resulting in him suffering three heart attacks on March 12, after which he was put on life support. He was taken off life support on March 14 and he died later that day.

That is all for now till next time 🤙
