Adam Ace

Hi all GamerGeek back again with another blog about a wrestler fighting out of Montreal Canada....... Born and raised in Dublin Ireland

Ladies and Gentlemen Adam Ace

Adam Ace aka Mark Flanagan always wanted to be a wrestler. He started wrestling in early 2011 in a small wrestling school in Dublin. It would take him a 2 hour bus ride each way from his house to train for 2 to 3 hours, 4 to 5 times a week. Now that is a man determined to be a wrestler.

"Ever since I could walk I wanted to wrestle, I loved the pageantry, the athleticism, the story telling. Wrestlers were real life superhero’s and I gravitated towards that."

When he started his career he had 3 characters with terrible names and awful gimmicks. He really want to make this his career and to be taken seriously so he re-branded himself. He would study wrestlers names and noticed most wrestlers were using names that sounds like real names.

" I started looking at wrestlers names again and noticed a lot of wrestlers have 3-4 syllables in their name to make it easier to chant, so I was like ok, 3-4 syllables it has to be."

Someone once told him he looks like a an Adam ( I agree with this as Adam reminds me a bit of EdgeπŸ€”). So now he needed the last name.

"While I was thinking this over I was playing around with a deck of cards and the Ace card caught my eye and I though, Adam Ace."

He had the name and what a name it is. Now what was his character gonna be. He worked as a stunt man but couldn't find a way to use it as a gimmick.

"I like playing poker, playing cards, doing magic things like that so maybe something card related. I’ve always been a big superhero fan and as a kid I loved the animated x-men series and one of my favourite characters was Gambit. So I drew inspiration from that character among a few wrestlers and adapted it to myself and Adam Ace was born!"

He attended his first wrestling event in Dublin in the O2 ( which is now the 3 arena) in the early 2000's.

"My mother brought me as an early birthday present! It was such an incredible experience."

One of his favorite matches in the WWE was Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 12 - Iron Man match

"That match is so incredible, 2 men wrestling for 1 straight hour and doing everything flawlessly and no matter how much I watch it, I always learn something new."

Another match he says is he favourite was Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon at WrestleMania 10 - Ladder Match

"That match’s story and energy from the crowed is just magnificent, as a fan and as a wrestler."

As you can probably tell by now his favourite wrestler is Shawn Michaels. I agree with Adam, Shawn Michaels is considered one of the greatest of all time. He really is a show stopper. As Adam worked as a stunt man he was fortunate enough to work with Shawn during a movie and was able to speak with him about wrestling and get advise from him.

"He sat me down in his dressing room and he watched 2 of my matches with me and gave me advice and critique and I am so blessed to have had that experience with him."

Of course Shawn was one of the wrestlers he would of loved to fight past or present.

"Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart, then there’s names like Will Ospreay, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Bryan Danielson, Matt Sydal. These names are incredible talents and every one of these people I’d love to share a ring with!"

He hasn't had the chance to fight any of them but he has advised me of which two matches he would class as his favourite ones. The first one when he wrestled Jigsaw from ROH ( Ring Of Honour) while on tour in the UK.

"That match was just so good from top to bottom, Jigsaw is a great talent and to work with someone like him and step up and keep up with him was just such a good feeling to me."

The 2nd match was against The Suicide Jesus Justin Turnbull in Canada.

"Justin is a amazing wrestler and we’ve always been good buddies ever since we met in Europe about 8 years ago, and when you can wrestle a friend and have a great match it’s always just so much fun. We told a great story and we beat the hell out of each other! Fantastic match!"

He says fantastic match, I say fantastic kick look at this ♥️😍 he knocked the bejesus outta him..... get it Jesus outta him. Never mind. πŸ˜’

When someone goes up to you and days "nobody's going to book you, nobody's going to pay to see you" it does hit you. It keeps you down like a chip on your shoulder. Adam was told this and it hit him, it is not a good feeling for anyone to hear. That was in Adam's head for 3 months until he got a call and was invited to tour in the UK.

Having all that in your head, in the ring, putting on a show and then top rope, Pair of Aces ( like Finn Balor Coup De Grace) ....1.....2....3

POP

"And New British Commonwealth Champion........ Adam Ace"

"So to go from not being good enough to be booked in one promoters eyes to being on a tour and put in the spot as their champion was incredible, and thankfully that tour led to other European shows and even a tour in the USA.

In Adam's career he has been fortunate enough to hold 6 championships
LDN British Commonwealth Championship
LDN Heavyweight Championship
AVC European Championship
PWE Heavyweight Championship
FCW North American Championship
FCW Tag Team Championship

He currently has the FCW tag team championship with his tag team partner Scott Leslie. (However at this moment due to covid the promotion hasn't restarted). They are both looking forward to putting the titles back on the line asap.

With Adam having a tag team partner already he did advise me of which other superstars he would of loved to been a tag team with.

"I would have to choose someone like Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Michael Hayes, William Regal, these men have forgotten more about tag team wrestling than most will ever learn. In the current era of wrestling I would love to team with someone like Brian Pillman Jr or Brock Anderson as they have that classic tag team background and lineage and if I was to go from the Indy scene I would have to say Justin Turnbull. Our connection in the ring is so strong and that’s just rare to find."

In 2019 he was due to have a WWE tryout but unfortunately due to the pandemic those plans were cut short. Thankfully he has been in contact with them to get things started again.

πŸ™πŸ™Here hoping to see Adam Ace vs Edge ♥️♥️ it would be amazing.

At this moment Adam is in the process of opening his own wrestling school called The Canadian School of Professional Wrestling. He has just started a new promotion in Montreal called Apex Championship Wrestling. Their first event is July 10th with wrestlers like Brian Pillman Jr, Jigsaw, Matt Sydal, Session Moth Martina and Psychosis

I want to take this time to thank Adam for his time and I want to wish him and his promotion the best of luck. And also to when his school is up and running.

That is all for now till next time πŸ€™
